Campout Details

When: Starts at 6:30pm Friday (feel free to show up earlier, I'll get there around 5pm), ends at 11:30am on Saturday (but you can leave whenever you want)

Who: The whole family is welcome, Scouts should be in uniform.

Cost: $8/person (including adults and siblings... I'm not sure about very young siblings. I would say use your judgement on this), cash or check

Food Provided: Dinner Friday night, breakfast Saturday morning (I suggest bringing your own supplements... last year was hot dogs and baked beans)

Weather: Rain or shine

Facilities present: Restrooms with running water, can't remember if there are showers

Bring: Your own tent, sleeping bags, toiletries, extra clothes, warm clothes, camping chairs, flashlights, etc

Do not bring: Electronics, pets, alcohol, firearms, fireworks

Where: Longview Lake Group Camping Area on Highgrove Road (google map at right). The easiest way to get there, in my opinion, is to go south on 71 and take the Main Street exit in Grandview. Go LEFT (EAST) on Main Street (you will go over 71), and Main Street turns into Highgrove Road. Go 1.7 miles (you will go past Grandview High School) to a four way stop when you reach Grandview Road on Highgrove Road. Go straight at the intersection and turn right in about 0.5 miles, into the camping area. I believe there is a white sign with red non-descript characters at the entrance, and the road goes uphill to a parking area. Please park and find our Pack (several Packs will be camping there). Call me if you get lost, and I will do my best to direct you in.

Email me (danbird1975@yahoo.com) with questions, or call me (816.686.6763) with questions after 4pm on Friday. Hope to see you all there! dan

Wolf Den Meeting 2- Our Living Planet

Hi Wolf Den! I was really, really proud of the boys (and their sisters!) for conducting themselves so well today at UMKC. They represented themselves, our Den, and our Pack extraordinarily well (and asked some great questions, too)... I was very impressed with them. If everyone brings their Wolf book to the Pack Meeting on Monday night, I'll be sure to get all of their books signed for the achievements we earned.

I'm going to attempt to post a few pictures from tonight in this blog post... feel free to leave any comments. See everyone Monday night!

Cub Scouts (and parents) listening to Dr. Richardson explain the river model and how they plan to implement their engineering solution on the Platte River, to save the shore from eroding at the bend.

Scouts racing the paper boats that they made down the river model. The current moves fast!

Pack 50 Wolf Den with their boats. What a fun meeting!

Monday, September 12, 2011

Hi Wolf Den parents! Our meeting tomorrow will be at UMKC, we'll meet at the main quad at 6pm (main quad is just west of Rockhill, between 51st and 52nd). After checking with UMKC, there is no free parking on campus, day or night. However, much of Rockhill is open to parking after 6pm, and there is metered parking on campus. There shouldn't be a problem finding parking nearby at that hour of day. We'll go into the engineering building at 6:30pm to see the indoor river, learn about the Platte River eroding its soil bank, and race our paper boats! We will be done by 7pm.

Please have your boys wear their uniforms if they have them (and bring your Wolf Handbooks); if they don't have them yet, that's ok, but please make sure they get them by the first Pack Meeting on Monday, 19 September. Hope to see you all tomorrow (Tue)!
